The Restoration of Dry Martini

With the restoration of the hull complete Kurt's Marine turns its attention to the only remaining items on the list...
The Kiekhaefer Aeromarine Engines.
These engines are some pretty exotic powerplants. They are based on your everyday GM design big block engine. The exotic part is at the front of the engine were all the accessories are located. There are no belts to drive the alternator and other accessories, they are all gear driven. Kurt's Marine has started with the oil pans, The have been bead blasted and are just the first of hundreds of parts on the list to be cleaned up and rebuilt.

Above one of the oil pans pulled from the pile of parts prior to being bead blasted. The big question of the day was what the cover on the pan was used for... the best guess for the day was to allow replacement of the oil pump.

Above one of the many of original flyers Kurt has gathered advertising the features of the engines. If you look closely you can see some the innovative design of the gear driven accesories.

The Main caps were blasted today and the threads on the block were chased with a tap to clean them out

One of the heads cleaned up and ready.
The other head is in the blast cabinet right now undergoing it's fourth hour of blasting.
Word is the paint just won't come off the other head.

One of the intakes prior to restoration. The gold paint is extremely thick.
The stacks are damaged and stuffed with the newspaper from Brazil still.
This is how they were stored in the cave. Kurt actualy has some replacement stacks
waiting to be installed on the intake.
